Clear PPF Grade Selector

Clear PPF Grade Selector

Choosing between grades of clear paint protection film comes down to thickness, top coat, gloss and warranty, and how those numbers behave on the panels you actually cover. This page works as a selection hub rather than a product detail page: it puts every series in one matrix so installers, shops and distributors can line up automotive paint protection film grades side by side, then shortlist two or three constructions worth testing on the next front-end job.

Clear PPF

Selection Criteria Explained

Five numbers on the specification table decide most of the buying question. Here is what each one changes when you are quoting a job or stocking a roll.

Clear paint protection film roll used for grade selection.
Film grade, top coat and finish are read together — never from a single figure.
01 · Thickness

Thickness in mil

The range runs from 6.5 mil (EX7) to 9.5 mil (SU10, EG10, PE10, CG10). More thickness adds mass against stone chips and road debris; thinner film conforms more easily around bumper corners, mirrors and tight body lines.

02 · Top coat

Top coating system

The table lists CeramicFusion™, EliteTec™, ProFusion™, QuantumLayer™, Self-healing™, UV-Carved™, QuantumBlack™ and CarbonFiber™. The top coat drives the finish character, the self-healing behaviour and the stain resistance you are selling.

03 · Gloss

60° surface gloss (GU)

Read at a 60° angle, the figure runs from 22 GU on MT8-MAX to 150 GU on UVGard™ UV9. Use it to match a film to the paint beside it — a 95 GU clear film and a 147 GU film do not read the same in daylight.

04 · Tensile

Tensile strength (MPa)

Resistance to being pulled apart. PE10 sits at 46.77 MPa while MIRROR BLACK is listed at 21.17 MPa. Higher values usually mean more force and more installer control needed during stretching.

05 · Tear

Tear strength

Resistance to a tear once the edge is nicked — the figure that matters when you wrap edges, lift film to reposition, or trim on the vehicle. Values are published as kN/m or MPa, depending on the row.

06 · Warranty

Published warranty

Listings run from 5 to 10 years by model. The product page notes the lifespan and manufacturer warranty depend on the model, environmental conditions and maintenance, so quote coverage with that qualifier.

Spec-Led Shortlist Cards

Each card names the specification to prioritise and the models worth pulling into a sample order — shortlists to verify, not ratings.

High-impact front ends

9.5 mil Tensile ≥ 33 MPa Tear ≥ 80 kN/m
  • SupremeGard™ SU10 — 35.80 MPa / 83.27 kN/m
  • EliteGard™ EG10 — 33.28 MPa / 80.18 kN/m
  • PrimeGard™ PE10 — 46.77 MPa / 101.73
  • ClearGard™ CG10 — 33.26 MPa / 86.17 kN/m

Buyer decision: the 9.5 mil rows carry the most mass, but they are also the least forgiving over a tight bumper shoulder — match the thickness to installer experience first.

Gloss-first finishes

60° gloss ≥ 140 GU Clear gloss
  • UVGard™ UV9 — 150 GU
  • UV8 — 148 GU
  • PE9 / PE8 — 147 GU
  • PE10 / EX8 — 145 GU
  • EX7 — 143 GU · CE8 — 140 GU

Buyer decision: compare the sample against the adjacent unfilmed panel under the same light, and check that prep and lighting complaints do not come back as finish complaints.

Longest published warranty

10 Years 8 Years
  • 10 Years — SU10, SU9, SU8, SE8
  • 10 Years — BlackGard™ BG-MAX
  • 8 Years — UV9, UV8, PG8
  • 8 Years — PE10, PE9, PE8, MT8-MAX, BG-PRO

Buyer decision: the page states coverage depends on model, environmental conditions and maintenance, so pair the promise with the Warranty and Maintenance Guide before it reaches a customer.

UV-exposed panels

UV-resistant formulation 8 Years
  • UVGard™ UV9 — 8.5 mil, 150 GU, 8 Years
  • UV8 — 8.5 mil, 148 GU, 8 Years
  • PE9 / PE8 — 147 GU, 8 Years
  • PrimeGard™ PG8 — 95 GU, 8 Years

Buyer decision: the page states anti-yellowing UV-resistant formulations across the range — pick the top coat that matches the customer's sun exposure and wash routine.

Self-healing daily wear

Self-healing™ top coat 7.5–9.5 mil
  • ClearGard™ CG10 — 9.5 mil, 93 GU
  • CG9 — 8.5 mil, 93 GU
  • CG8 — 7.5 mil, 96 GU
  • CE8 — 7.5 mil, 140 GU

Buyer decision: the page FAQ describes a thermal self-healing top coat where swirl marks and light scuffs recover with ambient heat or sunlight — set wash expectations at handover.

Matte, black and carbon trim

22–43 GU matte QuantumBlack™ / CarbonFiber™
  • MT8-MAX — 22 GU, 8 Years
  • MatteGard™ MT8 — 23 GU
  • ME8 — 42 GU · ME9 — 43 GU
  • BG-MAX, BG-PRO, BG-STA, MIRROR BLACK
  • CF-STA, CF-CLE — gloss not listed

Buyer decision: a matte panel shows a sheen mismatch instantly, so agree the finish target with the customer and plan the whole panel set before any cutting starts.

Match the panel and the driving pattern first; the grade follows from there.

Gloss & Appearance Fit Guide

The 60° gloss column splits the range into four clearly different looks. Read it as a finish specification, not a quality score.

Matte band — 22 to 43 GU MT8-MAX (22), MT8 (23), ME8 (42), ME9 (43). Built for satin and matte paint, plus low-sheen trim where a bright reflection would look wrong.
Deep black band — 91 to 95 GU BG-MAX (91), BG-STA (91), BG-PRO (92), MIRROR BLACK (95). QuantumBlack™ constructions for gloss black roofs, pillars and accents.
Standard clear band — 93 to 102 GU Most of the SupremeGard™, EliteGard™, PrimeGard™, QuantumGard™ and ClearGard™ rows sit here, with EG9 at 101 GU and EG8 at 102 GU.
High-gloss band — 140 to 150 GU CE8 (140), EX7 (143), EX8 and PE10 (145), PE9 and PE8 (147), UV8 (148), UV9 (150). The brightest read in the table.

Two films 50 GU apart read differently on the same paint — always compare under daylight.

High-gloss finishEngineered for premium glossy finishes that keep the paint's ultra-bright appearance.
Hydrophobic & anti-stainRepels water and contaminants, which makes maintenance washing faster.
Thermal self-healingMinor scratches, swirl marks and scuffs recover with ambient heat or direct sunlight.
Anti-yellowingUV-resistant formulations and top-coat technology support long-term clarity.
Clean removalProfessional installation and removal leave no adhesive residue and do not lift factory clear coat.
